Responsibilities
The Information Technology Advisory Committee (ITAC) of the Bayh College of Education at Indiana State University is a standing committee of the school that is advisory to the dean. The responsibilities of the ITAC are:
To maintain an inventory of information technology in the college owned by Indiana State University, including computer equipment allocated to individual faculty and staff members, regardless of the source of funds for acquiring that equipment
To prepare an annual information technology plan for the college that incorporates the information technology needs of each department and unit in the college and articulates clear and comprehensive college-wide goals
To advise the dean and others in the college on implementation of the annual information technology plan
To coordinate other activities in the college related to information technology as directed by the dean
Section Two
Committee Structure
The membership and leadership of the ITAC are structured as follows:
Each academic department in the college has one representative on the ITAC who is:
A knowledgeable user of information technology who can view information technology needs from a department, college, and university perspective
Appointed by the chair of the department with the concurrence of the dean
Expected to serve a 3-year renewable term that is staggered so that approximately one-third of the representatives terms expire each year.
The following units of the college collectively have one representative on the ITAC, appointed by the dean, who is expected to serve for a 3-year renewable term: Education Student Services, Instructional Resource Center, Office of School Improvement Projects, Publications Office
The chair of the ITAC, who may or may not be a regular department or unit representative, is appointed by the dean for a 3-year term and may be reappointed for additional terms
The associate dean serves as both an ex officio member of the ITAC and the ITAC’s liaison to the dean
The ITAC may also establish ad hoc technical and support working groups as needed to address specific planning issues or to advise it on specific implementation strategies related to information technology. The members of these technical and support working groups are appointed by the chair of the ITAC and may be from units of the university other that the college or from agencies not affiliated with the university.
Section Three
Specific Committee Responsibilities
To accomplish each of the responsibilities listed in Section One, the ITAC will do the following:
To maintain an inventory of information technology in the college owned by Indiana State University, including computer equipment allocated to individual faculty and staff members, regardless of the source of funds for acquiring that equipment
Establish, define, and regularly review and revise a set of information technology user levels with an associated set of information technology user competencies and an information technology hardware and software configuration appropriate to those competencies
Review each faculty and staff position or special purpose station (e.g., instructional technology lab station) in the school, and assign to it an appropriate user level
Prepare and share with faculty and staff members a comprehensive inventory of all information technology in the college, including for each faculty and staff position or special purpose station the assigned user level, current hardware configuration, any proposed hardware upgrade and cost, and any proposed new hardware configuration and cost
Develop and implement procedures by which, through their representative on the ITAC, individual faculty and staff members in the college can request review of the current user levels and the current and future hardware configurations associated with their positions
To prepare an annual information technology plan for the school that incorporates the information technology hardware and software needs of each department and unit in the school and articulates clear and comprehensive college-wide goals
Establish a procedure to help individual departments and units in the college to identify and rank their information technology hardware and software needs
Establish a set of decision rules for ranking each proposed hardware and software upgrade and new hardware and software configuration, share these rankings with faculty and staff members in the college, and establish a set of procedures by which, through their representative on the ITAC, individual faculty and staff members can request review and revision of these priority rankings
Prepare and submit to the dean and by May 1 an annual information technology plan for the school that summarizes and evaluates the implementation activities of the past year’s information technology plan, and articulates information technology goals of the school for the next year that combine and coordinate the information technology hardware and software needs and priorities of all departments and units
To advise the dean and others in the college on implementation of the annual information technology plan
Help the dean, department chairs, unit heads, and others to evaluate, select, procure, install, and use information technology hardware and software
Prepare and periodically submit to the dean specific recommendations for revising the college’s annual information technology plan
To coordinate other activities in the college related to information technology as directed by the dean, including:
Identify a comprehensive set of information technology competencies for the graduates of programs in the college and then recommend to the dean and department chairs procedures for assessing and facilitating students’ mastery of these competencies
Advise the dean and department chairs on ways to help faculty and staff members in the college use information technology
Assist the dean and department chairs with college initiatives that focus on incorporating information technology in instructional activities
Serve as an information clearinghouse for college faculty and staff members on matters relating to information technology
Provide recommendations to the various university committees and advisory groups concerning information technology in the college
Serve as the point-of-contact for all external inquiries to the college on matters relating to information technology
