The cumulative grade point average (GPA) is used to indicate the academic standing of students at the end of any semester or summer term and will determine their eligibility for continued enrollment.
A student must maintain a C (2.00) cumulative grade point average to be considered in good academic standing by the University.
If a student's cumulative grade point average is less than 2.00, the student will be placed on academic probation. Students on academic probation will not be permitted to take more than 13 credit hours. Students on academic probation will be assigned mid-term grades so they are aware of possible academic difficulties early in the semester. Students who are on academic probation are strongly encouraged to repeat courses in which "F" or "WF" grades were received during the next semester (or the next time the course is offered).
If a student is on academic probation and earns a semester grade point average below the required minimum, the student will be academically dismissed. The required minimum semester GPA is based on earned hours:
0-31 earned hours must earn 1.71 or higher semester GPA
32-62 earned hours must earn a 2.00 or higher semester GPA
63 and up earned hours must earn a 2.20 or higher semester GPA
Students who have been academically dismissed are not allowed to continue in classes. Students that are academically dismissed must be re-instated by the Dean. After a first academic dismissal, students must sit out of classes a minimum of one academic semester. After a second academic dismissal, students must sit out of classes a minimum of one academic year. After the minimum suspension time, students should submit a Petition to Return from Academic Dismissal to Education Student Services. No student may return after being dismissed a third time.
