Welcome. On behalf of the Bayh College of Education (BCOE) at Indiana State University (ISU), I wish you warm greetings. It is a pleasure to serve as the Dean of an outstanding teaching/learning community, focused on the preparation and advancement of educational and human service professionals for an ever-changing world. Central to our BCOE is a persistent dedication to promoting social justice and embracing diversity.
A quick perusal of the BCOE webpage and related links will provide interested persons with comprehensive insight into the quality of the faculty, staff, students, programs, services, and resources we provide. Our webpage also attests to the educational and human service impact the COE is having at the state, national, and international levels.
Positioned at the strategic crossroads of outreach and engagement, BCOE programming is immersed in a clinical pedagogy, focused on authentic conditions of practice and rich with reflection. In fact, the BCOE has a distinguished history of outreach and engagement across the state of Indiana extending around the globe. Education and human service activity accounts for more than 178,000 hours of graduate and undergraduate engagement with our educational partners. Currently, more than 1400 graduate and undergraduate students from more than 34 states and 13 foreign countries are studying with us. It is particularly noteworthy that the college’s outreach activities maintain a presence in 77 % of all Indiana counties.
Our leadership team of dean, associate dean, chairpersons, and directors has undertaken responsibilities for a comprehensive strategic planning initiative. This well-planned initiative will place the BCOE in an advantageous and competitive position to offer student scholarships, faculty professional development, and improved facilities that meet our current and future educational needs. I hope you will consider assisting in this important endeavor (http://www.indstatefoundation.org). Your support will enable the BCOE to meet the challenging teaching/learning demands of the 21st Century.
Recently, the BCOE affirmed its core values. These include honesty, collegiality, caring for others, responsibility, student success, and openness to change. Each day, our faculty, staff, students and alumni evidence these essential values, supporting our College’s most important legacy.
With Warmest Regards,
Bradley V. Balch
Dean
