Bayh College of Education Patricia J. Drake Textbook Scholarship
(Continuing Students)
The Bayh College of Education will make available to every matriculating
student (freshman and transfer) a $100 textbook scholarship at the ISU
Bookstore if the student has taken and met the minimum scores as
required for licensure by the Indiana Department of Education on all
sections of Praxis I prior to beginning classes at ISU. Each semester,
eligible students will also be entered into a drawing for an iPod.
Verification forms for all teacher education majors (secondary, K-12,
and elementary/special education) will be available on the COE webpage.
To be eligible, students will need to have their scores sent to ISU.

Bayh College of Education Patricia J. Drake Textbook Scholarship
(Students with Associate's Degree and Praxis I)
The Bayh College of Education will make available to all transfer
students who have successfully completed an Associate's Degree a $400
textbook scholarship at the ISU Bookstore if the student has taken and
met the minimum scores as required for licensure by the Indiana
Department of Education on all sections of Praxis I prior to beginning
classes at ISU. Verification forms for all teacher education majors
(secondary, K-12, and elementary/special education) will be available on
the COE webpage. To be eligible, students will need to have their scores

A. Elwood and Juneth S. Adams Memorial Fund
Recipient shall be a student(s) planning to major in education with a
minimum grade point average of 3.0.
Elisha A. Bourn Scholarship in Education
Recipient must be a deserving student who is an Indiana resident with an
overall grade point average of at least 2.5 preparing to become a
teacher and have reached junior standing.
Teresa Brooks Memorial Scholarship in Education
Recipient must have a declared major in the ISU Bayh College of
Education. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0
scale and demonstrate financial need; preference will be given to a
student from one of the following high schools or its successor:
Danville High School, Danville, IN or Orleans High School, Orleans, IN.
Patricia J. Drake Memorial Scholarship
Recipient must be enrolled at ISU, be a non-smoker, have a “B” average
or greater and be interested in teaching elementary and /or middle
school.
Ruth Ann Bourne Elrod Scholarship in Education
Recipient must be a deserving student who is an Indiana resident with an
overall grade point average of at least 2.5. Must be preparing to become
a teacher and have reached junior standing.
Norma Grosjean Scholarship in Education
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to a worthy full time
Indiana State University student(s) with a declared major in the Bayh
College of Education
Norma Grosjean Graduate Assistantship in Education
Recipient must be enrolled in the Bayh College of Education as a full
time graduate student, must be making satisfactory academic progress and
be in good standing in his/her program. Master’s degree student must
maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and a doctoral
student must maintain a 3.5 grade point average.
Esther Hamilton Scholarship
Recipient must be a woman education major.
R. W. Holmstedt Distinguished Professorship
As a result of a trust left in memory of ISU’s seventh President, Dr.
Raleigh Holmstedt, a grant will be awarded to one member of the Bayh
College of Education Faculty who has demonstrated a long and
distinguished career of teaching, scholarship, and service. The award is
intended to be a culminating event recognizing seven years or more of
exemplary and extraordinary teaching, service, and scholarship.
Jessie N. House Memorial Scholarship
Recipient shall be a candidate for a graduate degree who has
demonstrated academic achievement and who has been graduated from a high
school located in Indiana or a surrounding state.
Robert and Marjorie Jerry Travel Scholarship
Eligible applicants shall be juniors, seniors, or graduate students
enrolled on a full-time basis and have a GPA of 2.5 or better on a
Teacher Education Program on the ISU main Terre Haute campus. Awards
shall be made to supplement the cost of international travel related to
the applicant’s major or minor area of study.
Dr. Gail Huffman-Joley Scholarship
Recipient must be a worthy full time ISY freshman with a declared major
in teacher preparation. Recipient should show evidence of a good
scholarly record with above average grades and also show evidence of
experience or involvement with children or youth of a responsible
nature.
Barbara Kane Award in Educational Psychology
Recipient shall be an outstanding undergraduate student in the
department of Educational and School Psychology who has completed
between 60 and 100 semester hours when the award is announced.
Paul A. Kinser Faculty Development Award in Education
Recipient must be a member in good standing, of the Bayh College of
Education faculty. The endowment shall be used for the purpose of
promoting the continued professional development of the professoriate.
Dr. Herbert J. Klausmeier Scholarship in Education
Recipient must be a full time undergraduate student with declared major
in the Bayh College of Education, must have a minimum 3.0 grade point
average on a 4.0 scale and must have demonstrated financial need.
J.D. Miller Leadership in Education Scholarship
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to an Indiana State
University student(s) who is a junior or senior education major; should
be awarded to a student who has proven themselves to be a leader in
education during their student career
Madonna Owen and Linda Owen Scholarship
Recipient should be an incoming freshman. The scholarship is
renewable for an additional three years. Student must be enrolled
full time in the Bayh College of Education (grades K-8), and he/she may
be a member of pep band. Must be an average student with a grade
point average of 2.5-3.0 on a 4.0 scale. First preference will be given
to a female student who is an Indiana resident.
Bradley and Tonya Christman Balch Faculty Development
Scholarship
Recipient must be tenure tract or clinical faculty wishing to share new
knowledge in an educational discipline.
Pansy Beatrice Bryant Walker Memorial Scholarship
Recipient shall be a talented and needy student(s) in the field of
education
Richard Willey Memorial Faculty Development Fund
To be used for faculty development.
Dr. Robert O. Williams PDS Educators Service Award
Recipient must be from one of the Bayh College of Education’s
partnership schools and must have distinguished himself/herself by the
positive contributions that he/she has made toward the success of the
Partnership Program.
Ray Asbury Scholarship
Recipient must be a Terre Haute resident and be currently enrolled at
Indiana State University with a declared education major.
Ruth Zenor and Helen Zenor Brez Scholarship
Must be a junior majoring in elementary/secondary education. Shall be a
good student. Financial need should be considered but not the deciding
factor unless two equally qualified recipients are finalists. May be
renewed for the senior year.
Arthur Lucas and Cora L. Chestnut Fund
Recipient must be from Davies County, Indiana and use these funds to
obtain a teaching certificate.
DKG-Beta Omicron Chapter Fund
Recipient must be a full time junior in the Teacher Education Program of
the Bayh College of Education with a 3.0 grade point average and
demonstrate need.
Marian George Memorial Teaching Scholarship
Recipient must be a student of good character and have excellent
scholarship qualifications for the teaching profession.
Pamela and Earl Godt Scholarship
Graduate student in good academic standing in the School of Graduate
Studies. Preference to student with the highest grade point average on
the Graduate Record
Ray and Adelaide Hahn Memorial Scholarship
Recipient shall be a student enrolled at ISU who has a career objective
to teach and who intends to major in Education at ISU;
is a resident of Indiana or Illinois; is one of at least three
children in his or her family; and had at least a 3.0 GPA in high
school.
Hilda Maehling Memorial Scholarship
Priority to be given to a student majoring in teacher education.
Mae McCracken Memorial Scholarship
Must be a Bayh College of Education student from a Vigo County High
School with a "B" average and show financial need.
McKinney Educational Scholarship
Must be an ISU student who graduated from a Gary Indiana high school
with an expressed desire to become a professional teacher in an
elementary or middle school.
Caleb Mills Memorial Scholarship
An ISU senior, education major preparing to be a teacher with
outstanding scholastic and leadership qualifications.
Thelma F. Mills Scholarship
Must be an undergraduate student(s) engaged in a meaningful work
experience related to their vocational/professional objectives which
does not average more than 20 hours per week during the academic year.
Recipients making adequate progress towards a specific degree will
remain eligible for renewal.
Elliott and Estelle Nelson and Family Scholarship
Must be a Bayh College of Education student with "B" average.
Catherine Polson Education Scholarship
Incoming freshman in Bayh College of Education who meets the criteria
established by the scholarship committee of ISU Alumni Association for
Alumni Scholars.
Wayne E. Schomer Scholarship
ISU junior or senior education major, minimum cumulative grade point
average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Must work at least 12 hours per week on
average. Must participate in leadership activities on campus or in
the community and must be an Indiana high school graduate.
Pansy Beatrice Bryant Walker Memorial Scholarship
Established for talented and needy students in the field of education.

Fannie Blumberg Memorial Scholarship for Special Education
SAT total scores of 1100 or better and/or high school ranking in the
upper 10 percent with major in either the Department of Special
Education or the Department of Communication Disorders.
Dr. William Littlejohn Professional Development Award in Special
Education
Recipient must be an outstanding student with a major in the Bayh
College of Education and be an active member of the Student Council for
Exceptional Children.
Department of Communications Disorders, Counseling and School

Becker Award in School Psychology
Presented annually to the most outstanding doctoral student in the
School Psychology Program at Indiana State University
Bonnidell Clouse Research Award
Recipient(s) must be enrolled in a graduate program in the ISU Bayh
College of Education, or have completed graduate degree requirements
within the award year, or have been awarded a graduate degree within the
award year. The award is to be given for research that emphasized
the application of a psychological and/or educational theory to a
problem in the classroom or an educational environment.
Liam K. Grimley Professional Development Award
Must be a graduate student in the Psychology Program at Indiana State,
specifically student(s) would receive awards for national and
international travel related to professional development. Recipient
must honor the professional interests and values espoused by Dr. Grimley.
Recipients who are awarded $1000.00 or more must submit a two page
written summary about the award during the semester following receiving
the funds.
Barbara Kane Award in Educational and School Psychology
Must be an outstanding undergraduate student in the Department of
Educational Psychology and School Psychology with between 60 and100
semester hours when the award is announced.
Merle M. Ohlsen Scholarship
Recipient shall be a deserving doctoral student in counseling or
counseling psychology demonstrating financial hardship as perceived by

Edward C. Roeber Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is presented to a deserving third-year doctoral student
in counseling psychology.
Margaret L. Rowe Scholarship in Communication Disorders
Recipient shall be an undergraduate student who is enrolled in school
clinical practicum in the public schools. At the time of
application the student will be enrolled in, or will have completed, the
first course in clinical practicum. Selection will be based on
financial need, evaluation of clinical performance and overall academic
achievement.
Hannah Schlueter Memorial Scholarship
This award is granted annually to the senior in Communication Disorders
who has achieved the highest GPA in the major.
Dr. Kenneth Walker Outstanding Educational Specialist Award
Recipient shall be a third year educational specialist student in school
psychology with demonstrated excellence in academics, clinical skills
and professional involvement.
Stella A. Ringer Memorial Scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate preparing to work with hearing impaired.
Otherwise an undergraduate or graduate preparing to work with sight
impaired or physically/mentally handicapped.
Cheryl Slaughter Memorial Scholarship
Outstanding dedication to the Communication Disorders Program as well as
to students, faculty, and clients associated with the program. Should
be self-motivated, thoughtful and inspiration to others in both words
and deeds. Must have completed at least one semester of clinical
practicum or its equivalent.

Helen Layman Dix Memorial Scholarship
Recipient shall be a Junior or senior in secondary or elementary
education having desire and intention to take library science and gain a
School Librarians Certificate. Must show a financial need and
have an academic average in the upper half of his or her class.
Scholarship is for one year and is not renewable.
Wilburn Elrod Secondary Education Fund
Recipients(s) will have completed three or more years of teaching in a
public or private secondary school. Recipient should be
unconditionally admitted to a degree program in secondary education and
will have indicated an interested in, or desire to improve, classroom
management and discipline in public or private secondary schools.
Joan Jacob Award for Excellence in Secondary Education
This award is presented to an outstanding student enrolled in secondary education at Indiana State University. There is not an application process associated with this award; nominations are provided by faculty.
David W. Pease Award
The recipient shall have completed a student teacher assignment in the
fall or spring of the current academic year and have been nominated by
one or more professors from the CIMT Department.
Van Til Graduate Student Award in Writing
Friends of Dr. Van Til created this writing award to recognize outstanding writing by a graduate student from any department in the Bayh College of Education at Indiana State University. A certificate and monetary award is awarded at a ceremony in the Bayh College of Education in the Spring. View the call for papers announcement.
Educational Leadership, Administrations and Foundations Department

Anita and David Pankake Scholarship
First preference will be given to full time female students working on a
doctorate in educational administration at Indiana State University.
Preference will be given to individuals who have almost completed or
have completed their course work and are working on their dissertation.
Dr. Dale Findley Professional Development Award
Recipient must be from the Department of Educational Leadership,
Administration, and Foundations as master's or specialist degree level,
doctoral, or non degree certification students. Must indicate how their
intended state, national, or international travel would enhance their
professional development in educational administration.
Dr. Alfred L. and Juanita R. Harding and Family
Recipient must be an Indiana resident. Preference will be given to
students who Scholarship in Higher Education Administration are current
of former residents of Vigo or Sullivan counties in Indiana or who have
graduated from a high school in either Vigo or Sullivan counties. Must
be enrolled in the doctorate program in higher education administration
in the School of Graduate Studies at Indiana State University. Must
continue to major in higher education administration with a career goal
of working in college administration. Scholarship is renewable for a
total of four semesters providing the recipient remains in good standing
with the School of Graduate Studies. Recipient must receive this
scholarship in conjunction with other grants and awards.
Leland D. "Bill" Melvin Award
Must be a full time graduate student(s) enrolled in an educational
administration program of the Bayh College of Education. Awards may be
to recognize scholarships, to provide resources to assist student
research, or to provide for professional conference participation.
Applicants must submit a letter to the department chairman in which
they provide a brief overview of their educational background and a
brief discussion as to how the money would be used if awarded.
Edgar L. Morphet Research Scholarship in Education
To be used for graduate research.
Fred A. and Joyce E. Snyder Award
This award shall be made to a student completing a dissertation that
adds significantly to the educational administrative body of knowledge.
J. Fred Swalls Award in Educational Administration
Applicant must be admitted to the PhD program in the school
administration Applicant must submit a letter requesting the scholarship
to the Division of School Administration. Recipient must receive the
endorsement of the majority of the educational faculty on duty.
Applicants will be evaluated on scholarship, personal attributes and
leadership potential.
Dr. Gregory R. Ulm Endowment in Education Leadership
Award is designed to defray tuition cost for a student entering the
Ph.D. Wednesday Residency program in School Administration in the
Educational Leadership, Administrations and Foundations Department.
Daniel T. Tanoos Education Leadership Scholarship
Must be a full or part-time graduate student enrolled in the Principal
Preparation or Superintendent Program in the Department of Educational
Leadership, Administration, and Foundations; a Vigo County resident;
preference given for financial need.

Michael and Mary Blackwell Scholarship in Elementary Education
Recipients must be U.S. citizens and residents of the state of Indiana.
Must be enrolled full time (minimum 12 hours per semester) and maintain
minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Must have demonstrated
leadership skills and quality of character. Recipients will be juniors
or seniors.
Mafalda Brooks Memorial Scholarship
Student(s) selected shall be majoring in elementary education at Indiana
State University.
Eva Chipper Memorial Scholarship
Elementary education major with an interest in the arts or humanities.
Junior, Senior or graduate status
Norma L. Reynerson Davies Scholarship Award in Elementary Education
Recipient must have a declared major in elementary education and
committed to a career in elementary teaching. Must be an incoming
senior and have a cumulative 3.5 grade point average on a 4. 0 scale.
Susie Thurman Dewey Scholarship in Elementary Education
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to an Indiana State
University student who has declared a major in education. Student
must maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
Margaret Ann Gantner Scholarship
Must be a female and a bona fide resident of Vigo County, Indiana that
is in training to teach in elementary education.
Dr. Vanita Gibbs Scholarship
An ISU student majoring in elementary education who demonstrates great
enthusiasm for learning and shows promise to be an innovative thinker
in attending to the individual needs of the students.
Lela Meres Gill Memorial Scholarship
Unqualified admission to Indiana State University. Career interest in
elementary education. Personal and intellectual qualities considered by
the committee to be worthy of scholarship consideration. Upon
satisfactory academic progress of a recipient, the committee can
recommend renewal of the scholarship.
Vivian L. Jones and Daisy Marvel Scholarship
To be granted to a graduate student who is pursuing or intends to pursue
an advanced degree and who is conducting or intending to conduct a
worthwhile project or research study and has achieved previous
certification in elementary education, successful teaching experience at
the elementary level, and has formulated a plan of graduate study which
shall include a project or research study calculated to achieve
improvement in the quality of elementary education, Funds for education
and research expenses, including books, tuition, and fees, but not
personal expenses. No discrimination based on gender, race, religion,
etc.
Sylvia S. Laska Memorial Scholarship
Major in early childhood education, (2) Preference to minority students
and/or women students who graduated from a high school in Vigo County.
The William J. Linville Scholarship in Elementary Education
Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to an Indiana State
University student(s) who meets the following criteria: must major in
elementary education; must be preparing to student teach during the fall
or spring semester; and must show financial need
Israel R. and Amanda L. Love Memorial Scholarship
Young woman who has finished her freshman year in preparation for
teaching at the elementary level in the state of Indiana. Recipient
must have earned a 2.5 grade point average. Must be involved in school
activities, and be in need of financial assistance.
Jean Vrydagh Luce Endowment
Income from the endowment will be used to further the best interest of
the Special Education Program
John Luce Endowed Award
Consideration for expenditures from the John Luce Endowed Award shall be
based on the needs of the Special Education Program.
Ione Shaul Nehf Memorial Scholarship
Recipient shall be an ISU student enrolled in pre-school or lower
elementary curriculum.
Donald and Joyce Ottinger Award
Recipient(s) will be selected based on creative approached in elementary
teaching. Applicant must demonstrate creativity while student teaching
or may submit an original proposal for a project or method to be used
during future student teaching.
Linda Owens Parker Scholarship
A worthy ISU student enrolled in special education who plans to be a
classroom teacher. Senior or incoming student preferred.
Pearman Sharp Endowed Scholarship
Must be a worthy student in the upperclassman and graduate level. First
preference will be given to students pursuing a major in elementary and
early childhood education with an endorsement in reading.
Otto J. Shipla Endowment
Award is for outstanding performance in Elementary student-teaching.
Student must have done Elementary student-teaching in ISU program in
Knox, Sullivan or Davies Counties.
Lloyd N. Smith Memorial Scholarship
Must be a full time student at ISU with declared major in elementary
education. Minimum 3.0 grade point average. Evidence of financial need.
Sycamore Sisters Scholarship
Recipient shall be an ISU undergraduate or graduate student majoring in
elementary education. Demonstrating innovative use of drama, music, or
art in the teaching of language arts.
Edgar M. Tanruther Scholarship
Shall be awarded to a junior or senior in elementary education.
Mary E. White Elementary Teacher Scholarship
This award will recognize students for outstanding performance in the
elementary educator preparation program.
Dr. Doris William Outstanding Student Teacher Award in Special Education
Recipient(s) shall be an ISU student(s) who is majoring in special
education and who has demonstrated outstanding performance in student
teaching. Recipient(s) shall be selected based on academic achievement
and exhibited promise of becoming an outstanding teacher(s) of special
education.
Juliette Phillip Wilson Endowed Scholarship in Elementary Education
Student must have declared a major in Elementary Education and maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given for financial need and for a female student.
