Bayh College of Education Promotions Committee
Procedures to be followed as Amended
I. The tenured faculty member receiving the most votes in the department promotions committee election will be that department's representative to the College of Education Promotions Committee.
II. The ranking procedure will be a fair and confidential treatment of all candidates for promotion with careful attention to issues of due process.
III. The ranking procedure will be in an orderly manner which is prescribed in this sheet as amended by the Committee on December 26, 1979.
A. Applications will be considered starting with those of lowest rank and proceeding to those of highest rank.
B. Ballots will be used, and ranking will be individual and secret.
C. The same procedure will be used at each of the three levels of rank:
(1) The Committee will consider each individual within the rank being considered in alphabetical order.
(2) A Committee vote will be recorded for each candidate on promotion or non-promotion. A majority vote will constitute the Committee's recommending the candidate under consideration.
(3) After the discussion has ended, with all persons responding about any candidate about whom they feel they have additional information, the First Ranking will be taken.
(4) The First Ranking will be considered a "straw" vote, and committee members will have time to discuss the outcome of the straw vote.
(a) if the First Ranking reflects significant agreement among Committee members, then a vote can be taken to make this ranking the final and official ranking of the Committee.
(b) if there is significant disagreement with the ranking results from the First Ranking Ballot, then a Second Ranking Ballot will be taken after a discussion of the disagreements has been completed.
(5) The Second Ballot will be the official ranking of the Committee unless the Committee feels another trial vote should be taken or new information would come to the Committee which would justify a reconsideration of this ranking.
(6) When the Committee has final rankings for each of the three levels, they will ask for a meeting with the Dean to discuss the rankings of the Dean and of the Committee. After this meeting with the Dean, the Committee goes into a regular session to decide if any new information has been received to merit a reconsideration of any of its rankings.
