Scholarships

joan Jacob Award for Excellence in Secondary Education

This award was established to honor Mrs. Jacob. It is awarded to an outstanding education undergraduate at ISU. The teacher preparation student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and exhibit high teaching potential as reflected in their evaluation of field experience courses. A certificate and monetary award is given to the recipient in the Spring at the end of the academic year. There is not an application process associated with this award; nominations are provided by faculty.

Helen Layman Dix Memorial Scholarship

Given in memory of Helen Dix who worked in the ISU Library for many years, this scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior at ISU who is pursuing a secondary or elementary education degree in Library Science. A need for financial help, intent to qualify for a School Librarian’s Certificate, and an academic average in the upper half of the class is required to earn this scholarship for each of two recipients. The award is given in the Spring at the end of the academic year. There is not an application process associated with this award; nominations are provided by faculty.

David Pease Secondary Education Student Teacher of the Year

Awarded to honor the memory of Dr. Pease who was a faculty member and supervisor of student teachers for 22 years at ISU. A certificate and statewide recognition is provided at the Annual Awards Banquet of the Indiana Association for Colleges of Teacher Education in Indianapolis in the Spring. There is not an application process associated with this award; nominations are provided by faculty.

Wilburn Elrod Secondary Education Scholarship in Classroom Management And Discipline

Dr. Elrod established this award to recognize graduate students who attain a proficient level for dealing with disciplinary problems at the secondary school level.  The recipient must be a doctoral student with at least three years of teaching experience, hold unconditional admittance to the CIMT doctoral program and show interest in improving classroom management and discipline.  A certificate and monetary award is given in the Spring. There is not an application process associated with this award; nominations are provided by faculty.

William Van Til Graduate Student Award in Writing

Friends of Dr. Van Til created this writing award to recognize outstanding writing by a graduate student from any department in the Bayh College of Education at Indiana State University.  A certificate and monetary award is awarded at a ceremony in the Bayh College of Education in the Spring.
