Graduate
Certification
- School
Library
Media
Services
This
program
consists
of 27
hours of
integrated
library
media
courses
leading
to
licensure
in
School
Library
Media
Services.
The
School
Library
Media
Services
Program
is
designed
to meet
the
standards
for an
Indiana
Rules
2002
license.
Those
who
currently
hold an
instructional
license
and who
successfully
complete
the
School
Library
Media
Services
Program
will be
recommended
for a
Rules
2002
license.
This is
not an
endorsement
but a
separate
license.
Individuals
will be
recommended
for
licensure
only
at the
developmental
level of
their
existing
teaching
license.
This
is NOT
an
initial
licensure
program.
The
School
Library
Media
Services
Program
may also
meet
licensing
requirements
in
states
other
than
Indiana.
Individuals
are
encouraged
to
consult
the
licensing
agency
of the
state in
which
additional
licensure
is
sought
to
ascertain
compliance
with
licensing
rules.
This
program
does not
lead to
a
master's
degree.
If a
master's
degree
is
desired,
application
should
be made
to our
M.S. in
Educational
Technology
with
Library
Media
Specialization
program.
Per
graduate
school
rules,
only 12
hours
may be
transferred
from a
non-degree
to a
degree
program;
therefore,
students
beginning
in this
program
but then
deciding
to
obtain a
master's
degree
must be
accepted
into
that
degree
program
BEFORE
completing
12 hours
of this
non-degree
program
if the
hours
are to
transfer.
The
program
has the
following
characteristics:
This
online
program
offers
students
a
program
of study
in
semester-based,
interactive
courses.
Most of
the
course
requirements
pertain
to
projects.
Typically,
each
course
includes
six to
eight
projects
related
to
course-specific
proficiencies.
Indiana
State
University's
on-line
minor/certification
program
in
library
media
services
is one
of a few
programs
in the
United
States
that
meets
qualifications
required
by many
state
and
national
agencies.
Graduates
are
eligible
for
certification
for both
school
and
public
library
IV*.
Licensure
as a
teacher
is
required
in
Indiana
for a
school
library
media
specialist.
However,
this is
not a
public
library
IV
requirement.*
Public
Library
IV
certification
qualifies
the
individual
to serve
in a
public
library
of a
community
with
less
than
10,000
people.
Note: Out-of-state students should contact their state department of education certification division for any requirements specific to their state.
