Math Teacher Academy

The summer 2004 Math Teacher Academy workshops were offered to 93 teachers in the Professional Development schools from the Terre Haute and Indianapolis areas. As part of the challenge to meet new Indiana Academic Standards with the ISTEP+, teachers were offered content and concepts to help students meet mathematics standards and prepare them for more advanced content required for graduation. The titles of the workshops were as follows: Geometry for Grades 3-5, Algebra for Grades 7-10, Geometry for Grades K-2, Number Sense for Grades 6- 8.

A total of eight individual three-day workshops were conducted beginning on June 9, 2004 with the last workshop ending on August 13, 2004, and were taught by ISU faculty members. Teachers from 12 Vigo County Schools, 1 Clay Community, 1 Southwest Parke, 1 South Vermillion school, and 5 from Indianapolis Public Schools participated in the workshop. In addition, the Geometry for Grades 3-5 was repeated and taught by Marylin Leinenbach at DeVaney Elementary School during the Summer 2005. Even teachers participated in this workshop. Teachers were paid a stipend for participation in the workshop upon successful completion of the workshop.
